This little one is Cecil’s new neighbor. He’s only about 6 weeks old and is blind. What a pair, Cecil born without eyelids, and this furkid born without eyes! Fortunately, he’s very responsive to sound and loves to play and be handled. As soon as he’s officially checked in he’ll get a name and a number. I’ll keep this post updated!
All the Cecil photos I took yesterday are out of focus. I wish I had a video camera to catch him growling at the kitten and grooming himself at the same time. Sounded kind of like “rahwlga, rahwlga, rahwlga!” He was happy to see me and is loving the constant food supply. He only got two squares at my house!
Auggie passed away on August 5th – see comments

Aww! Michele and I didn’t get to come in this weekend. I can’t wait to meet this little peeper. How is Tandoori (or was it Vindaloo?)

hey tobyjoe! His name is Augie and he’s home with me for awhile until he gets stronger. Vindaloo seems fine but everyone is keeping an eye on her. Lots of new Cat Loft residents for you to meet next time!

I’ve never seen a kitten in such a condition and my heart immediately went out to him. How does one care for a cat without eyes? Can they be socialized with other cats?

Awwwww…..poor little kid! He’ll need someone to give him lots of love!

Auggie died on August 5th, 2006. He had terrible diarrhea from the start and just didn’t respond to the medications and supplements he was getting. It seemed to be resolving somewhat, but he was very weak and passed away quietly. He was a sweet, loveable kitten who will be missed even though he was here for such a short time.

Lisa and everyone at BARC, I am so sorry. Thanks for all you did for him in his short life – thanks for giving him love and a fighting chance. You guys are really the best.

Lisa,
I’m saddened to learn Auggie died. With today’s advances people and pets still die from something we too often dismiss as the “runs”. I’m curious if Auggie’s stool was positive for Clostridium difficile?? Salmonella?? Shigella??? I get FDA warning automatically, and have looked up a few things. Bayer manufactures “Baytril” (enrofloxacin) which is given in pill form frequently to cats and dogs. (Bayer states, “injection for Dogs Only. Do Not use injection for cats”..!!)… BUT, for DECADES, the FDA has refused to allow Bayer to put “Baytril” (enrofloxacin) into feed for animals to be used for human consumption. Their reason is the risk of antobiotic resistent Campylorbacter Enteritis. (Bayer keeps trying because they are more interested in profits.) Could Auggie be among the victims of an emerging antibiotic resistent infection?? Could he be an early warning?? Thank God for your efforts and love of animals.

I would adopt The Kid Next Door and Cecil if I didn’t keep the two orphaned kitties I bottle fed and have my 15 year old tabby (in a 300 sq ft mobile home). We have always adopted the kitties no one else wanted. My grandmother cared for 3 dozen neglected, abandoned, abused cats that found their way to her (my mother cares for them now). I would have more if I the space.
